In 2001, The Bike Lane opened its doors for business. As it turned out, owners Todd and Anne Mader had no intention of being just another local bike shop hawking tune-ups and high-end components (though they do have great deals on both!).Advocacy and Community Involvement![]() Anne and Todd, owners of The Bike Lane, pose for a picture after an event Anne and Todd recognized one simple fact during the early stages of The Bike Lane: the health of their business is directly correlated with the vibrancy of the local bicycle community. Consequently, the shop sponsors, participates in, and/or advocates for, just about every bicycle related organization, event, and initiative in northern Virginia (that's no exaggeration). From mountain bike trail advocacy (Anne has been on the MORE Board of Directors for eight years) to Safe Routes to School, which is gaining traction in Fairfax County, this bike shop preaches what it practices. Promoting the Bicycle LifestyleAs Anne Mader pronounces, "We don't just sell a bike. We sell a lifestyle." The Bike Lane's website, which has a wealth of information on bike buying, bicycle commuting, and race training regiments (to name a few), further illustrates that point.
