Canoe Cruisers Association instructors for the Tuesday evening lesson

To members of the Canoe Cruisers Association (CCA), Washington DC's largest paddle sports club, teaching the sport they love is second nature. CCA instructors, in partnership with Fletcher's Boathouse, host a Tuesday evening canoe and kayak lesson on the C&O Canal specifically geared towards beginners. The cost? A whopping five bucks, and that includes a rental canoe or kayak. It may not be Smithsonian prices (free of course), but $5 is still a pretty darn good deal.

Your instructors are experienced and certified members of the Canoe Cruisers Association. The two hour class (6:30-8:30 PM) is about learning the basics. Safety first - paddling in a straight line, a close second! After a brief dry-land lecture, instructors and students board the vessels and paddle out to the classroom. Standard paddling techniques are introduced and practiced on the water. By the end of the lesson, your zig-zag paddling direction might be a thing of the past.
