REI

Local trail stewards will be busy this Saturday. The Washington DC area features five large-scale projects (and several more community/county projects) scheduled for National Trails Day 2009. Instrumental in pulling off an event of this magnitude is outdoor recreation superstore REI and its representatives from each of the four DC metro stores (locations include Rockville, MD; College Park, MD; Fairfax, VA; and Bailey's Crossroads, VA). REI, which stands for Recreational Equipment Inc., is a corporate sponsor of National Trails Day and, more importantly, event promoter and volunteer recruiter. Leading REI's effort in the DC area are four dedicated individuals (one from each store) known as "Outreach Specialists." This is what they'll be doing on Saturday:

Keith (REI Rockville, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) - Keith's crew is partnering with Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE) to work on the mountain bike mecca known as the Schaeffer Farm Trail System.
Barbara (REI College Park, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) - Barbara is representing REI at Greenbelt National Park alongside the National Park Service and Friends of Still Creek.
Rhonda (REI Fairfax, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) - Rhonda has her hand in trail day events at Bles Park (Loudoun County) and Prince William Forest Park.
Mark (REI Bailey's Crossroads, email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) - Mark and the gang are returning to the Great Falls area for another trails day event - this time in Riverbend Park.

National Trails Day 2009 is fast approaching but it's not too late to contact Keith, Barbara, Rhonda, or Mark to sign up for an event. See you on Saturday...happy trails!
