Washington DC Area Causes

Great Falls on the Potomac River

Great Falls on the Potomac River

The Climate Crisis. Wildlife protection. Open space preservation. Nature conservation. Renewable energy. Bicycle advocacy. Smart growth. Watershed cleanup. Trail building. At-risk youth outdoor programs. Public transportation. Nature conservation. Brownfield development. Urban food cultivation. You name the cause - DC has an organization dedicated to it. The Washington DC area is ground-zero for outdoor recreation and environmental causes for a simple reason. Where else do you have metro-accessible access to the policy honchos (i.e. the federal government)?

In the coming weeks (and months, and years), this website will focus on a two specific categories of causes: the preservation and expansion of outdoor recreation opportunities; and environmental protection. Of course, to separate the two is missing the point - only through strong pro-environmental policies can we realistically expect to continue to enjoy and connect with the natural world.
